A Return to (or Revenge of) the Internets!

I am back to writing my blog again after a brief hiatus. I want to thank everyone who has been patiently awaiting new entries. I want to assure you that more material will shortly be forthcoming.

Right now I am listening to the song "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield. A classic: a beautiful song with meaningful lyrics.

"There's something happenin' here.
What it is, ain't exactly clear.
There's a man with a gun over there.
Tellin' me, I got to beware.

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.

There's battle lines bein' drawn.
Nobody's right, if everybody's wrong.
Young people speakin' their minds.
Gettin' so much resistance, from behind...

It's time we stop, children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.

What a field day for the heat.
A thousand people in the street.
Singin' songs, and a-carryin' signs:
Mostly say, Hoo-ray for our side.

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.

Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your life it will creep.
It starts when you're always afraid.
Step outta line, the man come and take you away.

We better stop, hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.
(repeat chorus)....."

Absolutely brilliant song.

-- On an unrelated note, has anyone seen Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) lately? Don't look for him in Michigan.

Yes, the Republican Party still has a candidate running in the race for President. Despite an ever-widening margin for Democratic candidate Barack Obama in key toss-up states causing them to lean in his favor, and an ever narrowing margin in many Republican states causing them to become toss-ups, McCain is continuing his negative, unsubstantive, counterproductive character attacks. And his Vice Presidential candidate is still Gov. Sarah Palin? Really? And he expects us to take him seriously?

Did any of you see the last Presidential debate? Sen. McCain seems to have enmeshed himself in a profound state of confusion. He's trying to be humorous, and failing remarkedly at this task. Fail.

Personally, I believe Tom Brokaw would be a tremendously able Secretary of the Treasury. At one point, Brokaw asked McCain whom he would appoint to the office, and McCain blurted out the response, "Not you, Tom." That's no way to treat an old friend. Kudos to Brokaw: he conducted an impartial debate even though he is friends with Sen. McCain. Yes, and many of you didn't hear about this. But we really shouldn't have. It's a ridiculous action for either candidate to ever complain about the format or the moderator of a debate, because these things are negotiated by the candidates themselves. They only have themselves to blame.

Welcome back, teleprompter.

Don't trust the polls.

I wouldn't say don't trust the polls. I would say, don't become complacent.

I'm going to try not to become complacent. I know the reality on the ground, what people think about Obama: all of the negativity and the Republican attacks on him.

Thanks.

The negative sentiment against Obama is well-founded, in my opinion. But I don't think it will be enough to cost him the election. Also, Tom Brokaw selected about the most boring, predictable, and unimaginative questions possible for the "town hall" debate. This definitely hurt McCain, who needed something unconventional and unpredictable.

Agree with last post that Brokaw did a bad job but disagree about sentinment against Obama. It was not a town hall in any way shape or form. Obama made a bad mistake when he rejected opportunity to do real town hall mtgs.

Check out the nonpartisan web site annenberg factcheck.org, this is not an obama web site, it is from the Annenburg School of Public Policy at the University of Pennsylvania.

Yes, Brokaw did a terrible job, but he was terrible on an impartial basis. I at least give him credit for that. However, I also give him credit for selecting incoherent and unimaginative questions.
